It took a long time to find the right combination of materials that would stand up to abuse on the water, but it's finally here! This Mag Release is intended to clip to the back of your vest, and on the top of the net hoop allowing the handle to hang down. This allows for easier access to the net handle when ready to land a fish. The magnets are very strong neodymium magnets that snap together when placed within a few inches. A sharp tug will release the net from your back.
Left to right: Spalted Walnut, Fiddleback Myrtlewood, Burl Maple
Reclaimed Spalted Walnut on the lathe.
The top magnet can be made out of any wood, or mix of woods you like. Each top magnet includes a layer of extremely dense Bubinga to protect against wear from repeated magnet connections. The bottom magnet loop (attaches to your net) is made of a durable polypropylene webbing secured with a brass chicago screw. This webbing material is more resistant to UV, moisture absorption, mildew, rot, and stretching when compared to nylon, or leather. The size is universal and should fit most nets with a hoop circumference of 2.75 inches or less. If you would like a more precise fit so the magnet stands rigidly upright, measure the circumference of your net you want the strap to wrap around, and I will make one that fits your net perfectly.
